Workshop - Fresh Leaf Indigo Dyeing Sept 10

Come and help us harvest Japanese indigo fresh from the Studio’s garden and experiment with ways to create lovely organic blue washes on fabrics, as well as potent dark green patterns using just the leaves from the indigo plant and stencils. 

We’ll start the class by picking the leaves from plants and learning about how they were cultivated, then move quickly into creating a dye mixture of leaves and salt to color an 8”x54” silk scarf that you can bring home with you. You will also have the opportunity to experiment with other techniques to create patterns on cotton and/or use to embellish your scarf. This is a great opportunity to share ideas and try out a couple of techniques with our indigo harvest!

About the Instructor: 
Renee Johnson is always on the search for unique and beautiful textiles and notions to be used by crafters and seamstresses alike. Renee also hand dyes fabrics and sashiko threads using natural materials like indigo and black walnut.  Renee is also always up for collaborating and experimenting with anything we can think of to dye in the studio!
