Regular price $200.00 USD
Regular price Sale price $200.00 USD

Spend a half-day learning the basics of woodturning with instructor Jason Nemec. We'll cover a broad overview of what it means to turn wood safely and efficiently using a top-of-the-line lathe and tools, and using our native northeastern hardwoods.

This private lesson is for one or two people. Bring a son, daughter, parent or friend to learn alongside you, or keep all the fun to yourself! This is your lesson, so I'm happy to tailor what we cover to what interests you most. Or, if you have me decide I'll recommend the following:

  • The anatomy of the wood lathe
  • Lathe hazards, and the ways we protect ourselves from them
  • The three "Modes" of turning: spindle, face grain, & end grain
  • Lathe tools and work-holding on the lathe
  • The essential spindle turning cuts: peeling, slicing and scraping
  • Learn to use the roughing gouge, spindle gouge and parting tool to achieve these cuts
  • Harvesting wood for turning. What to look for, how to store and dry material for turning on the lathe
  • Food-safe finishing with all-natural tung oil
